Expert Legal Help for Those Affected by the Severe Birth Defects of Zoloft

Recent studies have linked the antidepressant drug Zoloft with several severe birth defects of the heart, lungs, brain, spine, skull, abdomen and face as well as musculoskeletal defects.

Zoloft is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drug taken by millions of women worldwide for depression, bipolar, obsessive-compulsive, panic, and social anxiety disorders. Experts believe that thousands of children could have been affected as a result.

As research of the harmful nature of SSRI drugs such as Zoloft is just surfacing, many families who are dealing with the serious birth defect or death of a child may not even know that a drug may be the cause.

If you took Zoloft during pregnancy and gave birth to a child with a birth defect, it is important that you speak with a qualified Zoloft Lawyer as soon as possible about your legal options. It may be possible for you to file a zoloft lawsuit.

A Zoloft Lawsuit can help with vital medical treatment and support needed for your child, as well as the lost time, wages, pain and suffering that they and your family will face as a result.

The Health Risks of Zoloft

Zoloft was released by Pfizer in 1991 and has become one of the most popular antidepressant medications of all time.  In 2007 alone, almost 30 million prescriptions for Zoloft were written in the Unites States.

Zoloft has been regarded as an effective treatment for major depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder.  However, it has recently been linked to severe birth injuries in the infants of mothers taking the drug during pregnancy.

The list of Zoloft Birth Defects can include:

  • Heart Defects
  • Lung Defects
  • Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN)
  • Neural tube defects - spina bifida and anencephaly of the brain and spine
  • Skeletal and Facial defects – Club Foot and Cleft Lips
  • Abdominal and Cranial defects

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Institute of Reproductive Toxicology, New England Journal of Medicine and National Birth Defects Prevention Study of Infants have all released warnings or research linking Zoloft and other SSRI drugs to severe birth defects.

If you took Zoloft during pregnancy and your child has suffered any of these birth defects please contact us immediately to learn your legal options. You may eligible for substantial financial compensation to help with their condition.

Lawyers with the Zoloft Litigation Group are currently filing lawsuits on behalf of those injured by the drug and can explain what compensation is available to your family.  Time to file a claim, however, is limited.
